Proctology
Conservative coloproctology comprises the diagnosis and treatment of disorders that we can cure without surgery on an out-patient basis.
Many disorders respond better to surgical intervention, however, and some can only be treated with surgery. We perform most of our operations in the Coloproctological Centre itself – some under local anaesthetic, but most with a short-acting general anaesthetic. For such operations, we work together with the Anaesthetist Team at the Facharztklinik, a specialist clinic, who administer the anaesthetic quickly and safely. The patient is then monitored in our recovery room, the operation is discussed and any details of post-operative care which have not yet been sorted, are organised. Here, we have developed a proven pain management model in collaboration with Dr Steinhoff: we generally prescribe pain medication before the actual surgery, to ensure that treatment for pain can continue without any problems.
The same also applies for the specialist clinic, Facharztklinik Hamburg. Here, we provide operations for people who cannot be cared for as out-patients – on account of their age or a lack of domestic care provision (e.g. for foreign patients) – or where major surgery is needed and cannot be provided with out-patient facilities.
In summary, we take care of our patients both before and after the operation, we identify the indication and choice of treatment ourselves and everything stays under one roof – our roof.
